New Frontiers in Barnacle Evolution

Indexed incrossref

Abstract

We survey the state of knowledge in barnacle studies in several fields: use of modern technology in developing species descriptions, paucity of anatomical data, problems of over reliance on archetypal species, lack of a phylogenetic systematic framework for past work with lack of an adequate phylogeny. Several pathways for future research within these problem areas present themselves. We also identify ‘hot spots’ in cladistic studies of Maxillopoda that must be directly addressed if the new frontiers in barnacle evolution can move forward.
