Abstract
Medical social work is one of the longest established branches of social work. Its special problems—concerned with illness and disability, and the establishment of working relationships with the medical profession, with its high social and scientific prestige—are also of interest to social work as a whole. First published in 1967, Social Work in Medical Care explores the historical development and work of the medical social worker at the time, in both hospital and local authority department, and the main issues of policy in each are discussed. Medical social work emerges from the author’s description and analysis as a field of considerable interest and challenge.
