Centrifuge modelling of a spile-reinforced tunnel heading

Abstract

A series of centrifuge model tests has been undertaken as a preliminary investigation into the influence of spiles placed as reinforcement into a tunnel face. The results show that the presence of spiles both improves the stability of a tunnel heading and reduces associated ground movements.
