Abstract
The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) was established in 1993. It develops evidence-based clinical guidelines for the National Health Service in Scotland. The development of the guidelines includes systematic identification and critical evaluation of available evidence, and in the development of recommendations for changes in practice, representatives of all the relevant disciplines and professions are involved. To date 55 SIGN guidelines have been published; the most recent of which is the revised guidelines on the management of diabetes.
