Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and the Virgo Collaboration
Abstract
The two Advanced LIGO detectors started taking data last September, with a much improved sensitivity after a major upgrade of all their key components. The first results, based on data from the beginning of this coincident run and released on February 11th by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and the Virgo Collaboration, will be presented. Prospects for the future data taking periods will also be discussed, as the Advanced Virgo detector should join the worldwide network of interferometric detectors in the coming year.
