A mathematical model of grouted sand allowing for strength degradation

Abstract

The aim of the paper is the formulation of a convenient mathematical model aimed at the description of the mechanical behaviour of grouted sand specimens. A short outline is first given of the experimental tests performed on a series of sand specimens deposited and subsequently grouted in the laboratory. An elastoplastic strainhardening model is next presented which has the same conceptual structure of the constitutive laws currently used to describe virgin sand behaviour. Two additional parameters take into account the acquired tensile strength and the increased stiffness of the grouted soil specimens with respect to the virgin one.
