Abstract

The mechanism of flexural toppling failures of foliated rock slopes has been investigated through a series of centrifuge model experiments. Aydan and Kawamoto’s (1992) limiting equilibrium model, calibrated using the centrifuge test data, has been found to accurately predict the failure load for all the tests reported in this study. Using this model, a set of nomograms (design charts) has been prepared for the design of slopes in foliated rocks.
