Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of how the mind develops over the life course, its capacity for making sense of the world around the reader, its influence on learning and self-regulation, and the impact that life experiences and environment have on these developmental processes. The neuroscientific literature shows a neuroanatomical correlation with intelligence, where neuronal dendritic branches and brain connectivity, specifically the pathway among the prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, and parietal cortex, are associated with intelligence.
