Families and genera of Isopoda Anthuridea

Abstract

The Anthuridea Monod, 1922 are a suborder of Isopoda characterized by an elongate cylindrical body form, without dorsal coxal plates, and with a uropodal exopod attached to the peduncle proximally and dorsally. Over 300 species are described and these are assigned to 57 genera after synonymy of a further 30 genera. The taxonomic history of the group since 1814 is briefly reviewed. A cladistic analysis supports recognition of six families of Anthuridea, two new: Anthuridae Leach, 1814 (24 genera); Antheluridae Poore & Lew Ton, 1988 (3 genera); Expanathuridae fam. nov.
