Abstract

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer morbidity, disability and mortality in women, worldwide. Overall, in 2020, it was the most diagnosed malignancy. Differences in breast cancer mortality have been historically evidenced, as a result of disparities in access to diagnosis, treatment and palliative care. Epidemiologic trends in the last decades display three main patterns of breast cancer mortality: some high-income countries report continuous substantial improvements exceeding 2% annual mortality reduction; however, many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have stagnant or even increasing mortality rates.
