Systemic Therapy for Colorectal Cancer

Abstract
Colorectal cancer remains the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in this country. Although colorectal cancer is best managed by a multidisciplinary team of surgical, radiation, and medical oncologists, cytotoxic therapy remains the backbone of treatment in the metastatic disease setting. In addition to cytotoxic therapies, vascular-targeted therapies and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)–targeted therapies for selected patients with metastatic colorectal cancer improve outcomes for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.
