Abstract

Graphical Abstract This cover page describes the work of Chinonso Ugwumadu, D. A. Drabold, and co-workers on the formation of hollow and capped amorphous multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from initially random atomic configurations (see article number 2200527). It further confirms the high propensity for carbon to form ordered structures from otherwise chaotic realizations. An important finding of this work is that the layering occurs due to metal-like interaction of the pseudo-free π electrons that are distributed in the gap between two CNT walls.
