Abstract

Functional approaches connect human cognition with pragmatic orientation. Thus, pragmatic and sociocultural contexts must be included in the discussion of second language learning. To this end, Song describes three views that can be employed to discuss speech acts based on cross-cultural and/or situational variability: context system view, linguistic code view, and linguistic politeness system view.
