Abstract
Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society is one of the premier journals of feminist scholarship. The journal was launched by the University of Chicago Press to publish emerging scholarship about women that is routinely ignored by mainstream journals. This essay traces Signs’ contributions to political studies from its founding in 1975 to the present. It examines how interdisciplinary feminist scholarship expanded understandings of the political and illuminated power dynamics in domains deemed apolitical by mainstream political science.
