The Aiatsis Code of Ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research

Abstract
In 2020, the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) launched the AIATSIS Code of Ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research (the AIATSIS Code)—a set of guidelines for researchers based on four principles: Indigenous self-determination; Indigenous leadership; impact and value; and accountability and sustainability. We argue research is fundamentally altered when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ethical principles are prioritised and honoured.
