Abstract
This study offers a comprehensive survey of generation capacity planning from a reliability perspective, considering the influence of renewable resources and energy storage systems. The uncertainties surrounding intermittent resources raise concerns about power system reliability. This has led to the proposal of new assessment and optimization frameworks in generation expansion planning, as evidenced by numerous reports and original research works. In addition to the challenge concerning power system reliability, phenomena such as Dunkelflaute require thorough consideration when planning problems.
