Abstract
Microplastics (MPs)—synthetic polymer particles less than 5 mm in size—have emerged as ubiquitous contaminants in terrestrial and aquatic environments worldwide, raising concerns about their ecological and human health impacts. While research has predominantly focused on urban and marine settings, evidence shows that rural ecosystems are also affected, challenging assumptions of pristine conditions outside cities and coasts.
