Abstract

Despite a large body of literature on learning and development, education providers consistently report that published research fails to reflect what actually happens in classrooms. The reason is not that the theories are wrong — it is that the research structures used to generate them are poorly suited to capturing how children actually develop. Three structural features define mainstream educational research and limit its usefulness.
