Abstract
Background: Australian commercial beef producers buying Angus bulls are making a decade-long genetic investment. Most selection tools present raw EBVs, percentile bands, and selection indices describing what a bull looks like on paper without answering the question that matters most: will this bull reliably push my herd forward? Australia's commercial beef herd is overwhelmingly crossbred. Producers running Hereford, Brahman, Droughtmaster, Santa Gertrudis, Charolais, and Wagyu cow herds are the largest buyers of Angus bulls in the country.
