Abstract

Antibiotic resistance represents a global health threat, challenging the efficacy of traditional antimicrobial agents and necessitating innovative approaches to combat infectious diseases. Among these alternatives, antimicrobial peptides have emerged as promising candidates against resistant pathogens. Unlike traditional antibiotics with only one target, these peptides can use different mechanisms to destroy bacteria, with low toxicity to mammalian cells compared to many conventional antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have encouraging antibacterial properties and are currently employed in the clinical treatment of pathogen infection, cancer, wound healing, cosmetics, or biotechnology.
